Different Perspectives 7th April 2008

Was reminded today that there are many ways to view something...although most of the time we tend to view it negatively...like its unwanted...or unneeded, just a waste of time. Been pretty angsty the past few days...gotta lighten up and smile more...

Wasn't exactly my day today...I forgot to bring my tie for morning assembly...(its held every Monday) Well, seems like the V.P Mr tan noticed that a lot of people weren't wearing ties and asked that those who didn't bring or have it with us then..to meet the discipline teacher after assembly. Had to surrender our EZ-link cards to him before going for lesson with the stigma attached that we had to buy a new tie in order to get the card back.

At once, u could sense that people were cussing in the back of their minds...like "why do we need to buy a new tie!?"..."this is ridiculous"..."over such a small thing?"..."what a waste of money"..."what's the point?"

Yes, indeed these are some of the instant thoughts mused. We tend to focus on what's negative and wrong...being to caught up in ourselves that we forget...it is not an easy decision to ask all the students to buy the new tie as well.

Most of the time, we would like to be on good terms with everyone...but there will be instances where one has to play the "bad guy" and spoil the fun for everyone...being a "wet blanket". If they had a choice, I'm sure they would not want it to end up in such a way as well. However, this is just a cold hard brutal fact of life...that sometimes, to settle the problem, it has to have a lasting impact...and what better way...then to target the purse as people tend to be stringent with money...seeing as how prices are increasing...etc

Maybe we are too used to be given chances...or routine to seeing things not being effectively carried out...that this action promptly taken by the discipline comity is a shock and unexpected at all. Many times, warnings are given, but it falls on deaf ears....and maybe this has prompted it to such measures that punishment is dealt first...questions later...so as to skip the hassle of checking up on e individual...and at the same time...send out a message that "I mean business"...
kind of tone..that echoes throughout the whole school...

It is not easy to accept the harsh and at the same time a little unreasonable...but justifiable punishment...but it's the best solution...in both the long and short run. It comes at the cost of $8...but in turn gain a new found way...of putting yourself into another's shoes...and you'll realize...that what the person does...is in fact what you yourself would have come up with to be the most efficient and reasonable punishment.

In such things we draw new insights and gain a new found respect and understanding of how authority makes decisions...for with each decision, comes a consequence and if one should make the choice...of choosing one's decision...one should be man enough to take the consequence on the chin as well...and move on...

Most of the time, it is a small thing...but we blow it up to big proportions...
I think it's time to just let such things pass....and think more on the bright side...
I must smile more...:) like I used to....

Bye
